How great is your faith?

Hi friends,

Today I was reading Matthew 14 and was fascinated by the story of Jesus walking on the lake, again...

This story has so much meaning to me and I thought I might share it. I am going to use the soap method for this.

Scripture - Matthew 14:29-33

29 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.

30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.
33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Observation

The reason Peter could walk on the water was because he had faith, but he was afraid of the wind and
he began to sink. This shows that his faith was not strong enough. What is it to have faith? Hebrew 11:1 tells us ''Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.'' We should fully trust in Jesus and know that if we are with him nothing can harm us. Fascinating to read was the part was that even though Peter lost his focus, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him immediately, showing us that it is OK to have little faith and that Jesus will always be there, standing next to us to catch us whenever we fall.

Application

Whenever we struggle we should look upon Jesus and understand that he will help us. In everything we do we should focus on Jesus. Whenever we have a worried heart it is as if we are sinking like Peter, but when we look upon Jesus we will not sink.

''He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." - Matthew 17:20

Prayer

Father,
Strengthen our faith so that we can fully depend on you in times of trouble and that we may not sink.
Amen

God bless,

Beatrice
