4 lessons we can learn from Joseph's story

Hi Friends,

For the past few days I have been reading about the story of Joseph in Genesis and I picked up a few lessons we could learn from Joseph's story so we can use it in our daily lives.

1. God has a plan for each one of us

The Bible says in Jeremiah 29: 11
'For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'
God has a plan for us, and it is good. We need to understand that nothing can change God's plan for us no matter how many trials we face. The Bible says in Isaiah 14:27 that nothing can stop God's plan for us. Even though Joseph was sold as a slave and put into prison, he stayed patient because he knew God's plan for him, which was revealed to him through his dream. We should pray that God should have His way in our lives and that He will lead us because he know what is best for us.

2. Joseph overcame temptation (Genesis 39)

Potiphar's wife tempted Joseph by trying to get him in bed with her, but Joseph resisted. We should try and resist evil as well. The devil doesn't like it when we overcome his temptations. Potiphar's wife made a story up to tell Potiphar because Joseph refused to go to bed with her. Joseph was thrown in prison because of that. We should realize that whenever we overcome the devil's traps he is not happy and will try and 'punish' us for this, but we should remember that this does not stop God's plan for us.

3. Joseph was humble

Joseph was given the gift to interpret dreams. Joseph could have taken credit for himself for what he has done, but he didn't when he wanted to interpret the cupbearer and the baker's dream in Genesis 40:8, he said  “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.” When Joseph wanted to interpret Pharaoh's dream he said “I cannot do it,“but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.” in Genesis 41:16. We should also practice to be humble. God has given gifts to each one of us and we are more likely to give ourselves all the credit, but we should remember that God has given us the grace and ability to do it.

4. Joseph was forgiving

After all what Joseph's brothers had done to him, Joseph still forgave them, which was very nice to read. It is very hard to forgive other people, but remember this:
''Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.'' - Colossians 3:13
We should forgive others because God has forgiven us. The Bible also says in Matthew 6:15 that if we don't forgive others God will not forgive us as well. .

I hope these lessons were helpful :)

God Bless,

Beatrice
